Our program offerings include:

  • Untie the Elderly a step-by-step program on the elimination of physical restraints.
  • Freedom from ALL Restraints: Physical and Chemical is a workshop that paves the way to a restraint free environment.
  • Restraint Removal in Acute Care Settings  a step-by-step program addressing the unique challenges facing hospitals in the elimination of restraints.
  • Chemical Restraints:  How to Avoid Inappropriate Use of Mood Altering Medications details the intent of the chemical restraint regulations and the approaches to compliance.
  • Helping the Caregiver a program for nursing assistants focusing on how to deal with challenging situations and how to individualize care through creativity.
  • Fall Prevention Workshop is a program that addressess the issue of accidents or falls by offering concrete assessment tools to assess residents' risk for falls, and sugguesting ways to reduce the numbers of falls that occur in the facility.

Program Objectives

Broadly speaking, Untie the Elderly's program objectives are to:

  1. Describe physical and emotional problems associated with the use of physical restraints.
  2. Identify the advantages of providing restraint-free care.
  3. Outline the change process for implementing a restraint-free policy.
  4. Explain alternatives to physical restraints that could be implemented in a long term care facility.
  5. Identify a safe environment for residents who are high risk for falls.
  6. Learn how to conduct assessments on residents who are high risk for falls.
